Classes, Workshops, and Programs

Have you been wanting to learn how to use your beautiful sewing machine since it came into your life but you’re not sure how to begin? Or has it been so long that you’ve forgotten how all the bells and whistles work? We can help! Come to the studio for an hour.  Bring your machine (and manual if you have it) and we’ll get you on your way to sewing. The Time Is NOW!

Need space to work on your projects? In need of a serger? Access to full size cutting table? Grab your projects out of the basement, cramped corners, off the folding tables and bring them to our studio, Mondays.  We have a 4x6 cutting table, sewing machines,sewing tools, sergers, steam iron, yarn, knitting and crochet tools, spinning wheel, loads of embellishments and scarp fabric! We will be on hand for any questions or minor assistance.  Everything you need to get your projects done.

Have fun learning how to sew!  Learn about your machine, discover different stitches, how to read and cut out patterns.  We will cover the fundamentals such as preparing fabric, pinning, cutting, pattern reading, and seam allowance.  Students will complete a small project.

Level: beginner by appointment, Cost: $55 (2.5 hours for single sessions) or $150 (2 hours per session/4 sessions) contact us to arrange times.

Transition from observer to creator. This workshop is designed for people who have no previous knitting experience and for those wanting to begin again.  Come as you are and we will bring to life your creative hands! We will begin with the fundamental building blocks of knitting. We will master at least 2 stitches, cast on, cast off, learn how to increase and decrease, read patterns and symbols.

Several sessions recommended.

​It all begins with a single stitch.  And long before there were machines to assist, our hands did all the work!  The workshop covers the most valuable and most basic techniques of sewing.  Students will learn 5 to 6 fundamental stitches, how to securely sew on a button and snap, seams and edge finishing, various decorative stitches, and what are the best tools for the job.

With these basic skills you will be free to sew and mend anywhere life takes you!

​Want to try your hand at spinning your own yarn? Do you have a wheel that is begging to be used? Do you just have the urge to feel the sheep's fleece glide through your fingers and magically turn into yarn?  We are here to help with this crash course!

We have a wheel for you to learn on or bring your own. Let's get started!

Level: all levels, schedule a time that works for you.

Too often we toss our high hopes into a closet when we get stuck.  If you're stumped by instructions or the project is not coming together as it should let us help you through it.  Or perhaps your garment needs a little tweak or tune up like a hem, or sewing up a busted seam. We are here to help you get those favorites back into rotation.

Our fiber birthday parties are a fun and creative way for kids to celebrate their day with friends. Prior to the event, the birthday child chooses one of our various textile projects which all guests will make in our studio. The Fiber Works MPLS studio is loaded with all the materials needed to fuel their imaginations and keep their hands engaged. Each child will leave with a piece uniquely their own.

Sewing time is about 2.5 hours with about 30 minutes available for treats and fun chatter.

We provide all sewing materials, you provide any food items and decorations.

Cost: $250 for the first 5 children. $20 per additional guest with a maximum of 10.

Friday 5-8pm, September 19th

A time to knit in a gathering of needles, and yarn, and knitters! Sign-ups are encouraged so we can plan accordingly. But it's not required, we will be there regardless.Open to all!

• Prerequisites/Level:      ALL LEVELS.
• We provide:  Our inspiring studio, experienced knitters, we will also have out any yarn or supply surplus that one may wish to use.
• You bring:  Yourself and any (or none) of the following – your current project, your questions, a finished project to proudly share, your curiosity.

Are you excited about sewing your own clothes but not sure how to get started?  This class will help you find your path.Focusing on easy pattern reading, sizing, sewing straight seems, using a serger, and hemming.   All the basics for a successful garment!

Now that you’ve made friends with your sewing machine, you’re ready for the next steps.  This instructor lead workshop makes this accessory a breeze to complete.  

It’s all about the BASICS: seam allowance, straight line sewing, becoming more familiar with your sewing machine and gaining the confidence you need to create this one-of-a-kind hat. Great workshop for beginners and perfect for anyone who has taken our Stitch On! class.

This project-based course is for any youth curious about how to machine sew.  We begin with sewing machine operation.  Then we work on fun, small projects covering many of the fundamental aspects of sewing fabric.

Limited to 8 students (8-17yrs of age); 2 students required for class to meet.If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund.

• Level: Learning-to-sew Beginners You have never used a sewing machine or you have but only a little bit.
• We provide:  Tool machines, thread, expertise, and encouragement!
• You bring:  Yourself
• Class time: Wednesdays 4:30-6:30, five consecutive weeks.
• Students may be asked to purchase their own fabric depending on the project.

This event is free * no contribution is required to participate. Just come and peruse the goods

The Details:

-bring us your organized cast-offs and leftover fabric and yarn

-extra tables will be set up for incoming goods

-notions, tools, working machines and patterns also accepted

-browse the other tables of goods for something you just can't leave behind

NOTE on dropping off contributions:

You may drop off your materials anytime on the Friday before between the hours of 1-7pm or the day of starting at 8am and anytime after until noon.

All are welcome here  

We offer 3 days of sewing (machine and hand) and crafting.  No experience necessary. Each day has its own theme and you may sign up for 1, 2, or all 3. Come see what awaits in the sewing studio!
