Summer 2022 Kids Textile Camps

Sample Week (Sewing and Knitting)
Level: Open to kids ages 8-17
Cost: $275, plus $10 fee for materials.
Before and after child care may be arranged for an additional cost. Students bring their own lunch.
When: These week-long camps run 9:00 am-4:00 pm Monday through Friday June 15-19 (FULL), or August 24-28 (FULL).
Touch on many aspects of the textile arts with a focus on sewing and knitting. Students will have the opportunity to complete a knitting and a sewing project. A more-relaxed class to introduce kids to world of textiles and have the opportunity to try it out.

Sew Much Fun (First-Timer Sewing)
Level: Open to kids ages 8-17
Cost: $275, plus $25.00 for fabric (acquired on a field trip) because half the fun of sewing is shopping for fabric! Before and after child care may be arranged for an additional cost. Students bring their own lunch.
When: These week-long camps run 9:00 am-4:00 pm Monday through Friday July 6-10, (FULL) or August 10-14.
Have fun learning how to sew. Learn about your machine, discover different stitches, how to read and cut out patterns. Students will complete two projects. Learn basics sewing skills.

Sewing Daily
Level: Open to kids ages 8-17
Cost: $285, or $75 a day. Before and after child care may be arranged for an additional cost. Students bring their own lunch.
When: These week-long camps run 9:00 am-4:00 pm Monday through Friday June 29 - July 3 (FULL)
Daily workshops with a new, small project for each day. All levels of sewers will enjoy playing with fiber. Sign up for the whole week or just the days you want. Learn some basic how-to sew skills and have fun creating.

Sewing: The Next Steps
Level: Open to kids ages 8-17
Cost: $275, plus $35.00 for our fabric shopping trip. Before and after child care may be arranged for an additional cost. Students bring their own lunch.
When: These week-long camps run 9:00 am-4:00 pm Monday through Friday June 22-26, or July 13-17, or August 17-21
Now that you understand the basics of sewing, let's take the next steps! In this camp, we will expand your sewing skills: continue to learn pattern reading and lay out, improve on straight line stitches, hemming, setting in sleeves, and more. Students will complete a garment and we will have a variety of patterns from which students may choose. Perfect for anyone who’s taken our sewing workshops or has worked with a pattern to make a garment.

Half-Day Hand Made
Level: Open to kids ages 8-17
Cost:
$150 covers all supplies. Students bring their own snack
When: Week long, half-day camps 9 - 12 noon Monday through Friday August 3rd - 7th
This camp is a great opportunity for kids to begin to explore the world of fiber work. Small projects presented each day with access to all the fun materials in our studio!

School Release Days Fall 2020
Cost: $90/3 half-days: AM/PM
When: December 28-30 9 am - 12pm, 1pm - 4pm
As an additional precaution against COVID, we have limited our program to half days only and a total of 4 students in each session.
Here is an opportunity for kids to explore the textile arts and it's a great way for them to enjoy their days off of school. The students learn basic sewing skills and let their creativity flow. We have many fun and beautiful projects to introduce, some of which can be seen in an album on our photos page.

Costume 101 - Cosplay
Planet Homeschool
Cost: $150
When: Spring 2021 -- on-line
Anime, Manga, Cartoons, Comics, TV, and Video Games. In this class you will develop the skills to take your drawings from paper to reality! Learn about fabric, material, the best tools to use, and basic sewing skills. Visit Planet Homeschool website more information.

School Release Days:
Winter Break 2020
After great consideration we have made the difficult decision to not hold our in-person School Release Days. Instead, we have an opportunity for you to keep your hands active. We are offering several hand sewing project kits: Sashiko Lavender Sachets, Sashiko Jeans Patch, and a Grab Bag of fabric and yarn scraps for creating. You may read more about Sashiko embroidery here and many other on-line sites. Several excellent reference books include: Make and Mend by Jessica Marquez and Mending Matters by Katrina Rodabaugh.
The project kits are FREE to anyone who would like to try it. All kits will include all necessary materials you will need to complete the project. It also comes with our help, should you need it we can arrange a video chat! Please reserve your kit at our website.
Pick-up will be 12/27 1-4pm and 12/28 8-2pm at the Studio. We ask that you please reserve your free kit on line here so we can have it ready for you at pick-up.
A couple reminders: ADULT SUPERVISION is the best practice with young children. These embroidery projects are not recommend for children under 8 years of age. because of the extremely sharp needles. Regardless of age, please take care whenever useing these tools.

Cosplay After School Workshop
Cost: $175 7 sessions
When: Wednesday 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Seven weeks of cosplay fun. You bring us your ideas and we’ll help you bring them to life. Starting with your idea we’ll form a plan with a shopping list of supplies, help you make a pattern, guide you in the sewing process and add the finishing touches. You may use your own machine or one of our machines. And we have supplies on hand to help you achieve your final design.

Dive into our stash! We have updated this camp making room for exploration. A more-relaxed class designed to introduce kids to world of textiles and have the opportunity to try out sewing and knitting and more.

Discover the sewist in you! In this project-based camp, we introduce students to the basic techniques of machine sewing. Working together through a small garment pattern they develop these fundamental skills. Students will have fun applying their newly found talents to creations of their own imagination.

How do we achieve sustainability? Where does one person even start to make a difference? Students will bring in garments they no longer wear or do not like the way it fits and together we will come up with creative ways to up-scale, revamp, repurpose them. We aim to teach students how to begin to make their own wardrobe a sustainable one. Let’s all work to keep clothes out of the land fill!

The Evolving Sewist: Advanced Sewing
Level: Open to kids ages 8-17
Cost: $290, plus $35.00-$50.00 for our fabric shopping trip to our favorite locally owned craft store. Before and after child care may be arranged for an additional cost. Students bring their own lunch.
When: These week-long camps run 9:00 am-4:00 pm Monday through Friday
July 25-29 or August 15-19
Ready for your next a challenge? The objective of this camp is to open that door to independent sewing. We will guide students in applying their sewing skills and creativity as they progress through a sewing pattern. We focus on the essential steps involved in working a sewing project from inception to completion.
This class is designed for students who have previously taken our summer camps or have previous pattern sewing experience. Deepen your knowledge and skills and discover the freedom to sew it alone!

Paper & Cloth from the Kitchen Sink with Jen Schultz
Level: for children ages 8-17
Cost: $290 plus a materials fee $15 payable to Jen on the first day

Local artist Jen Schultz join us again this summer! She brings to the studio a whole new adventure in texture with hand-made paper.
This new camp immerses kids in the art of making paper and dyeing cloth to create their own hand-sewn books and other projects. With kitchen scraps and a little know-how, you can use those compostables to make paper and dye fabric the natural way. Hand-sewing and scissor skills helpful.
Jen Schultz is a local Twin Cities artist with a rich history of teaching art and sewing (and other subjects) to children and adults alike. Campers have told us that one of the favorite parts of sewing camp is the time we set aside for free sewing. They really enjoy doing their own thing. So we put together this camp during this funky holiday week just for "free sewing". Campers can bring in a project from home they need help with. Bring in a new project they need help starting. Choose a project from our studio stash or just make up a project as we go along. This camp is designed for the free spirit of each sewist.
Fashion Design
Cost: $150
When: Spring 2021 -- on line
We will take a close look at what it takes to be a Fashion Designer, delving into:

Garment parts and style of garments

Different cuts and shapes in dresses, shirts, pants, necklines and sleeves

Types of Fashion: Haute Couture and Ready-to-Wear
We'll also learn about different designers and why they are important and work on developing your own style. Other topics covered will include understanding textures and colors, learning about all kinds of fabric, a look at current trends and understanding them, how to get your designs manufactured, and more.
NOTE: We do not have a supply fee but students will need to get some supplies on their own.
